Another Holdup to Fly Kiwi Flag in WA Derby

The Pencarrow Stud bred kiwi galloper Another Holdup (NZ) will be the sole entry carrying the New Zealand suffix in Saturday’s A$400,000 Group 2 Western Australian Derby (2400m) at Ascot.

The son of Postponed (ex Boito Belle, by Centaine) has been racing well in his last few starts with Saturday set to be his first over the Derby trip of 2400 metres.

Another Holdup has been to the races 15 times winning his first race two starts ago over 2000 metres by almost three lengths after notching up seven placings over distances from 1100 to 2000 metres.

The WA Derby represents a big step up in class but the Wally Mitchell trained three-year-old showed that he is up to the challenge having only gone down narrowly in the Listed Melvista Stakes (2200m) at his last start.

The Melvista Stakes is a feature lead up race for horses heading to the WA Derby and the horse that beat Another Holdup in the Listed race, Gold Broker, is the Derby favourite and the pair have drawn alongside each other with Gold Broker in barrier 6 and Another Holdup in barrier 5.

Another Holdup was purchased by John Chalmers Bloodstock from Pencarrow Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2011 Karaka Select Sale for $60,000. He hails from the family of Group 2 winner Winning Belle (Zabeel) and the Pencarrow bred and raced Group 3 winner Our Ella Belle (Encosta de Lago).
