Darci Brahma continued his winning run as a sire in Singapore with Bogart (ex Pavan) scoring a second successive victory in the S$65,000 1200m Novice race at Kranji on Friday Night.

Bred at Peter Vela’s Pencarrow Stud, Bogart started the race as favourite following his last start triumph over Shipping Forecast. He was aided by carrying a light weight and he scored a one-and-a-quarter-length victory, once again proving too strong for Shipping Forecast.

Ridden by Manoel Nunes for trainer Michael Freedman, Bogart jumped from the inside barrier and settled just behind the leaders in the running. Nunes was able to forge his way into the clear in the home straight and Bogart got over the top of Shipping Forecast for the win.

The style of the win indicated that further distance will favour the recently turned three-year-old as his career progresses.

“The 1200m is probably a bit sharp for him,” said Nunes. “I think 1400m now would be ideal for him.

“He’s a very nice horse with a quiet temperament and that will hold him well for when he gets out over more distance.

“Today we had a very nice barrier and I was able to put him in a good spot. He quickened nicely today as he had a nice weight as well and importantly was strong all the way to the line.

“As he gets older and stronger he will certainly like a step up in distance which will open up options for him.”

Owned by Mummify Stable, Bogart has now won two races from three starts with his only defeat coming on debut when running third and has earned S$75,903.

Bogart is out of dual Oaks placegetter Pavan (Centaine), runner up in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks and Group 1 Australasian Oaks. She is the dam of five winners including Australian black-type placegetter Let Loushe (Black Minnaloushe). This is the family of Group 1 winners Marmalitre (Wolverton) and Allez Suez (Canny Lad).

Pavan is due to have another foal by Darci Brahma in the 2013 breeding season.
