Two from Two for Silver Eclipse

Pencarrow Racing has another exciting galloper with Silver Eclipse (Darci Brahma) notching up her second win from as many starts with victory in the $8,000 Gilmours Tauranga 3YO over 1200m on Saturday.

The daughter of Darci Brahma won on debut at Taupo during September in a determined fashion and showed the same kind of grit to land her second victory at Tauranga on Saturday.

Starting as the hot favourite, the Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie trained runner sat outside the leader in a moderately run race for rider Leith Innes.

Entering the straight, Silver Eclipse went to the leader and put her head in front. The leader fought hard on the inside but Silver Eclipse kept her dominance over the field to win by a short neck in a time of 1.11.03 minutes, with the last 600m clocked in an impressive 33.25 seconds.

“It was a good win,” commented Ramsay. “She has made it two from two now, she didn’t win by a lot but she only does what she has to.

“They have run 33 seconds for the last 600m which is quite a good gallop. They didn’t go hard early, often in small fields they don’t go overly hard early, but to come home in that time was a good run.

“We will look for some black-type with her this campaign, maybe the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes at Palmerston North could be ideal or there is a 1500m Listed race at Ellerslie on 30 November that could also be an option.

“I think she can get further in distance with the way she relaxes and the way she kept going after the post on Saturday indicates she should.

“She has only had two races, both over 1200m, but if she is going to get further now is the time to try as a lot of the black-type races are over 1400m or 1600m.”

The three-year-old filly’s second victory has increased her earnings to $9,375 for her owner Peter Vela who bred the horse in conjunction with his brother Philip Vela.

Silver Eclipse is by Pencarrow Stud graduate Darci Brahma, a five-time Group 1 winner that has made an impressive start to his career at stud.

The filly is out of stakes winning as a three-year-old Zino Belle (Success Express), the victor of the Group 3 Hawke’s Bay Gold Trail Stakes who has now produced five winners. This is the illustrious ‘Belle’ family that has proven to be very successful with Silver Eclipse’s second dam Finezza Belle (Sir Tristram) a multiple stakes winner and closely related to other stakes winners Winning Belle (Zabeel) and Our Ella Belle (Encosta de Lago).

Zino Belle has a yearling full-sister to Silver Eclipse that has been retained by the Stud to race.
