Strong Win by Biddable

Pencarrow Racing’s four-year-old Biddable (NZ) (Exceed and Excel x Uberalles) landed win number two in her short career with victory in the $7,000 Heart of Hawkes Bay Rating 65 1400m at Hastings yesterday.

The win by the granddaughter of Ethereal followed the win by a daughter of Ethereal, Duquesa (NZ) (Encosta de Lago), less than 24 hours prior at Ellerslie.

The daughter of Exceed and Excel entered the race in good form having finished second at her fresh up run at Avondale in November for trainers Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie.

Racing on a Good 3 track, Biddable settled mid-field in the eight-horse race for rider Jonathan Riddell. Upon entering the straight, Riddell found a passage through runners and despite being momentarily held up, Biddable unleashed a strong sprint to claim victory.

“She had 59kgs so we decided to ride her a bit colder to get her to hit the line,” commented Ramsay. “At her last start at Avondale she travelled up on the pace and got bombed so it was good to see her settle mid-field and she hit the line really good.

“We will just take her through the grades for now and maybe look for some black-type later on down the track. At the moment she would need to win another race to get into some of the better races.

“She ran in the Eight Carat Classic last year over a mile when the track was a bit off and she stopped but the way she relaxed yesterday I think she will get over a mile. Jonathan Riddell also thought she would get a mile on yesterday’s run.”

Pencarrow Racing collected a back-to-back double with Dark and Stormy (NZ) (Zabeel) winning the very next race on the program at Hastings, the third victory for Ramsay and Ritchie in 24 hours adding to Duquesa’s victory the previous day at Ellerslie.

Biddable’s second win came at her seventh raceday appearance and the four-year-old mare has now earned $17,450 in prizemoney for her owner Peter Vela who bred the horse in conjunction with Philip Vela.

The dam of Biddable is Uberalles (Giant’s Causeway), a Group 1 performed daughter of the great Ethereal (Rhythm). Biddable is the first foal out of Uberalles and the only foal to race so far. This is the family of foundation Pencarrow Stud mare Richebourg (Vice Regal) that includes an array of other top performers such as Romanee Conti (Sir Tristram), Grand Echzeaux (Zabeel) and Darci Brahma (Danehill).

Uberalles was sent to the Northern Hemisphere for the 2013 breeding season and was covered by undefeated champion racehorse Frankel to Southern Hemisphere time.
