Pencarrow Stud-bred filly Love the Rock (NZ) (Fastnet Rock x Love Connection) broke her maiden in impressive style on Friday night with a dominant 4.3 length victory in $35,000 Maiden 2040m at Moonee Valley.

Trained by Mark Kavanagh, who purchased the filly at the 2012 Karaka Premier Sale for $180,000 from Pencarrow Stud, Love to Rock was having her third raceday appearance following a fourth on debut before being narrowly beaten at her last start.

The three-year-old filly was ridden by stable jockey Michael Rodd and settled mid-field in the 12 horse race. The filly started as race-favourite and improved into the race approaching the home straight, racing to the lead and clearing away from the field to score by 4.3 lengths.

Mark Kavanagh was very impressed by the win of the Fastnet Rock filly who was setting up to 2040m for the first time in her career.

“This is a pretty good horse,” Kavanagh said. “By Fastnet Rock out of a Sunday Silence mare, she just took a bit of time but she just loves a trip and she could measure up into something pretty good.”

Kavanagh will now map out an Oaks campaign for Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide with Love the Rock.

Bred by Pencarrow Stud, the well-related filly is a half-sister Group 1 placegetter Stanica (Zabeel), the dam of another promising Melbourne trained galloper in the Mike Moroney trained Rhythm to Spare (Pins), a multiple city winner and Group 3 placegetter. Love the Rock is out of the Japanese-bred Sunday Silence mare Love Connection, a daughter of multiple American stakes winner Pleasureconnection (Danzig Connection).
