A race-to-race double was achieved for Pencarrow Racing as Revolutionary (Darci Brahma x Iconic) claimed her second career victory in the $15,000 Valachi Downs Selling at Karaka Premier Rating 65 over 1600m at Ashburton.

In the previous race at Ashburton Pencarrow Racing’s Southern Pride (Reset x Millar’s Pride) was successful, handing owner Sir Peter Vela, trainer Jan Hay and rider Kylie Williams a double.

Drawn barrier 1, Revolutionary jumped well and settled mid-field in large 15-horse race. Williams was able to get her mount away from the rail in plenty of time down the long Ashburton straight and tackle Zhanim (Savabeel) who had hit the front early in the straight and drew away from the field to win by half-a-length.

“She has been beating herself in her last couple of starts, she has gone great races but has beaten herself,” commented Hay. “We have had problems with her hanging, she still put her head slightly on the side yesterday but she went a really good race.

“I was a bit concerned from barrier 1 because they can all come around you and you end up shuffled back in the field, especially down that shoot.

“She ate up last night and came through the race well so we will see what is available in a couple of weeks.”

Revolutionary has now two races from 14 starts for earnings of $19,400. The four-year-old mare was bred by Sir Peter Vela in conjunction with Philip Vela. She is out of Iconic who is by the great broodmare sire Centaine and is related to Group 1 winners Dorabella (Postponed) and Insouciant (Keeper).

She is by Pencarrow Stud yearling graduate Darci Brahma who enjoyed a good day of domestic racing with two winners at Trentham including Silver Eclispe (Darci Brahma x Zino Belle) for Pencarrow Racing.
