Malaysian Winner for Pencarrow

Pencarrow Stud bred gelding Bespoke (Pins x Velvet and Satin) raced to victory in his first start in Malaysia under his new name Configure in the RM$55,000 Class 4 over 1200m at Selangor.

The winner of the Listed Welcome Stakes as a two-year-old in New Zealand for Te Akau Racing, the son of Pins was transferred to the Singapore stable of Mark Walker in 2012 but only had two starts there. After disappointing efforts in both of his Singapore starts, Bespoke relocated to the stable of the 2011 Champion Trainer in Malaysia Richard Lines.

Racing in a fresh state, Bespoke dashed to a convincing 1.3 length victory for his new owners, the Confidence Stable, displaying the ability that he had shown as a young horse in New Zealand.

Bespoke was highly rated as a two-year-old having competed in both Group 1 races held in New Zealand for juveniles, including a sixth placing in the Group 1 Diamond Stakes. He has won three races from 10 career starts.

David Ellis of Te Akau Racing purchased Bespoke at the 2010 Karaka Premier Sale for $460,000 from Pencarrow Stud.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, the six-year-old gelding is out of Group 1 placegetter Velvet and Satin (Carnegie), a daughter of Hong Kong International Cup winner Romanee Conti (Sir Tristram) and a half-sister to Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner Ethereal (Rhythm).

Another progeny of Velvet and Satin, Elysium (O’Reilly) was in form on the weekend as she ran a game second by a neck in strong Rating 65 field at Awapuni on Saturday.

Velvet and Satin foaled a colt by O’Reilly last season and was covered by leading sire Darci Brahma.
