A dashing front running display has seen Pencarrow Stud graduate Oriental Pearl (Darci Brahma x Paint Me a Dream) claim the fourth victory of his career over 1100m in Singapore on Sunday night.

The son of Darci Brahma entered the race on the back of a second placing at his last start for trainer Michael Clements and started as the race-favourite on Kranji’s Polytrack.

Singapore’s leading rider Manoel Nunes took Oriental Pearl straight to the front from barrier 3 and he relaxed in the lead. The four-year-old railed well and kicked clear in the straight, holding a comfortable margin over the field to win by 1.8 legnths.

“The pace was reasonable in the race and that really suited him,” commented Clements. “He has recently been in a couple of races where they have gone too fast for him. He likes to be up on the pace and when they go too fast for him he doesn’t finish off.

“When he gets a reasonable pace he is able to travel easy and he kicks on, it seems to be how he likes to win his races.

“We will keep him up this campaign and keep going. He is still in the same class (class 4) so we will look to run him again in four weeks’ time in another 1100m race. He is looking well, he is bright and happy so we will keep going.”

Yesterday’s victory was Oriental Pearl’s fourth win from 17 starts, taking his prizemoney tally to S$109,198 for his owners Florida Stable.

Bred by Sir Peter and Philip Vela, Oriental Pearl is out of imported American mare Paint Me a Dream (Deputy Minister), a half-sister to Group 1 winner Honour and Glory (Relaunch). This is also the family of Group 1 winning sire Ogyian (Damascus).

Mr Kee Siak Poh purchased Paint Me a Dream as a two-year-old at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2011 Ready to Run Sale for $50,000 from Kilgravin Lodge.
