Laurie Laxon combined with another Pencarrow Stud graduate in Singapore on Friday night with Danny (Elvstroem x Zino Belle) returning to winner’s circle in a S$35,000 Class 5 race over 1600m.

It had been a long time between drinks for Danny who hadn’t won since February of last year but had been in consistent form of late, placing in his last two starts.

The son of Elvstroem start as race-favourite and settled mid-field on the rails for red-hot jockey Manoel Nunes. The pair found themselves in traffic problems entering the straight with Nunes riding for luck on the rails.

A split appeared for Danny and he crossed over the heels of the leader to pounce on the gap. He dashed to the front and determinedly held stablemate Brad (Sir Percy) at bay to win by a length.

The win was one of six winning rides for Nunes on the nine-race programme and extended the Brazilians lead in the jockey’s premiership.

“He would have been unlucky if he didn’t win,” commented Laxon. “He is looking for a little bit more ground now too. He got held up for a long time which is why he finished off so well.

“He has a few more wins left in him so he will keep going this campaign. He looks like he can step up at 2000m now.

“He beat a horse called Brad which I train as well. I only had two runners on the night and they were both in the same race.”

Friday’s win was Danny’s fourth career victory to go with his 11 minor placings, earning S$184,663 in prizemoney for his owners the Oscar Racing Stables.

Laxon purchased Danny at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2009 Karaka Premier Sale for $50,000 from Pencarrow Stud.

Bred by Sir Peter & Philip Vela, Danny is out of Group 3 winner Zino Belle (Success Express), the dam of five winners including the promising Silver Eclipse (Darci Brahma). He is from a strong stakes winning family that includes Christiania Belle (Sackford), Finezza Belle (Sir Tristram), Winning Belle (Zabeel) and more.

Zino Belle was served by Darci Brahma last year and was sold by Pencarrow Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Broodmare Sale this year.
