Pencarrow Stud achieved more success in Singapore over the weekend when the Vela-bred and Laurie Laxon trained Deauville (Darci Brahma x Bartolomeo) won the S$38,000 South Australian Jockey Club Trophy Kranji Stakes (1400m) on Sunday.

Laxon has a long association with Sir Peter Vela and has trained a large number of winners for the Stud over many years, including Romanee Conti’s famous win in the Hong Kong Cup.

Laxon was quoted as saying this wouldn’t be the horse’s last win after success in the S$65,000 Super Easy 2012 Stakes on 30 March, and he was proved correct.

“He won well and has a nice trophy to his name thanks to the South Australian Jockey Club.

“He’ll go on to win a few more races I think. He’s just a useful, handy horse that will get better with age,” commented Laxon.

Ridden by Corey Brown, Deauville settled in the middle of the field before the son of Darci Brahma made his move at the 600m mark, racing away to win the race comfortably by three lengths.

Last night’s victory was the second for Deauville from his thirteen starts to date. The gelding is raced by Sir Peter Vela along with Laxon’s Silver Fern Stable.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, Deauville is out of Bartolomeo (Strategic), the dam of two other winners in Singapore in Soul Commander (Commands) and Jonathan (Darci Braha).

Also bred by Pencarrow Stud, Bartolomeo is out of Group 2 winner Paolino (Housebuster) and is a half-sister to listed winner Mirandola (O’Reilly). She is also a direct descendent of foundation Pencarrow mare Riverina Charm (Sir Tristram), a four-time Group 1 winner who was trained by Laxon for the last of her Group 1 wins in the Air New Zealand Stakes.

Bartolomeo foaled a colt by Darci Brahma last season and was once again covered by the five-time Group 1 winner.
