Bespoke Adapting to New Configure


Former stakes winning New Zealand galloper Bespoke (Pins x Velvet and Satin) scored his second victory in Malaysia racing as Configure with victory RM$75000 Singapore Sun 1976 Handicap (1400m) at Perak.

The Listed winning two-year-old in New Zealand, bred by Pencarrow Stud, recorded his second win from only four starts in Malaysia having claimed victory on debut at Selangor.

Trained by Richard Lines, Configure had the impost of topweight in the field however had the assistance of drawing barrier one. The kiwi galloper proved too classy for his rivals as he dashed away to win by nearly a length for rider Jose De Souza.

The five-year-old was sent to Singapore in 2011 to join the Mark Walker Stable following a successful two-year-old season in New Zealand. After two starts with Walker he was transferred to Malaysia and is now raced by the Confidence Stable.

As a juvenile, Bespoke won the Listed Welcome Stakes at Riccarton before competing at the highest level in both two-year-old Group 1 races in New Zealand.

David Ellis purchased Bespoke for $460,000 at the 2010 Karaka Premier Sale from Pencarrow Stud.

Bred by Sir Peter and Philip Vela, Bespoke is out of stakes-placed mare Velvet and Satin (Carnegie) who is a daughter of famed Pencarrow mare and Hong Kong International Cup winner Romanee Conti (Sir Tristram). Velvet and Satin is also a half-sister to Melbourne & Caulfield Cup victor Ethereal (Rhythm).

Velvet and Satin foaled a colt by O’Reilly last season and was covered by leading sire Darci Brahma.
