Pencarrow Stud-bred galloper Dylan (Darci Brahma x Battocchi) broke through for his maiden victory in Singapore last night, winning over 1200m at Kranji at his third start.

Dylan is a half-brother to Pencarrow’s Group 1 Telegraph Handicap winner Guiseppina (Johar), who foaled a filly by champion sire Fastnet Rock on Friday.

Trained in Singapore by Laurie Laxon, Dylan was a close third at his previous start, beaten just one length. Singapore’s champion jockey of last year Joao Moreira, now based in Hong Kong, is riding in Singapore currently while racing in Hong Kong is having its annual break and was aboard the son of Darci Brahma.

Moreira settled Dylan with just two runners behind him in the 10-horse field before picking a path between runners in the straight. The pair hit the front 200m out and, despite laying out, cleared away from their rivals to win by a length.

“He looks a good horse and he will get better with age,” commented Laxon. “He will improve, he is a nice, good looking horse and we won with a bit of authority.

“He certainly has ability but he does have to be ridden back. I can’t see why he wouldn’t get more ground, his mother Battocchi did, she was a country cups horse in Australia.

“I haven’t really got anything planned for him at the moment but I will probably find a novice race for him over 1200m or 1400m.”

Dylan is raced by the Oscar Racing Stable with his maiden victory taking his earnings to S$42,063. Laxon purchased Dylan for NZ$80,000 at the 2013 Karaka Premier Sale from Pencarrow Stud.

Bred by Sir Peter & Philip Vela, Dylan’s dam Battocchi (Success Express) was a dual stakes winner in Australia and, along with Group 1 winner Guiseppina, has left the stakes performed Micken (Darci Brahma). Dylan is from the family of Group 1 winners Trappings (Grosvenor) and Rubiscent (Rubiton).

Battochi was served by Darci Brahma last season with the resulting foal, due in the coming weeks, set to become a full-sibling to Dylan.
