Persuasive Goes Back-to-Back

Progressive Pencarrow Racing mare Persuasive (Darci Brahma x Pertinacious) captured back-to-back wins with victory in the $20,000 Smash! On The Edge TV Rating 75 1200m at Ellerslie on Saturday.

An impressive winner fresh-up this preparation, Persuasive made it consecutive victories showing what is quickly becoming a customary finishing burst.

Trained by Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott, the daughter of Darci Brahma settled well-back in a fast run race for rider Michael Coleman. Picking a path through the field, the pair sprinted to the front at the 200m and raced away to win by three-quarters-of-a-length.

“It was really pleasing,” commented Scott. “The race setup really nicely for her with the hot speed up front and it was beautiful ride by Michael to work her through the field and come on the way she did.

“It was a really encouraging win, there were some promising horses in the field and to win the way she did, with the rail out as far as it was, we couldn’t have been happier with the performance. It was a beautiful turn of foot she showed and hopefully she can keep on her winning way.

“We will see how she comes through this race before deciding on another race. We are just taking baby steps with her as she is still a bit immature. She will obviously be better in the autumn and as she gets older she will only get better.”

Saturday’s win was Persuasive’s third victory from eight starts for owner Sir Peter Vela.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, Persuasive is out of Montjeu mare Pertinacious, a daughter of New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year and multiple stakes winner Sarwatch (Jetball). Persuasive’s third dam is four-time Group 1 winner Riverina Charm (Sir Tristram).
