Promising Pencarrow Stud-bred three-year-old Kolonel Kev (NZ) (Darci Brahma) claimed victory in the $50,000 Ekraar & Echoes of Heaven at Linwood Park Stud 3YO Premier (1400m) at Trentham’s meeting on Saturday.

The son of leading sire Darci Brahma began his racing career earlier this year and has two wins and two fifths to his account from four starts with trainer Lisa Latta.

“It was a very pleasing performance, a sharp improvement after adding the blinkers,” Lisa Latta commented.

Sprinting into victory, Kolonel Kev won by one-and-a-quarter lengths for rider Michael Dee, with Elvis (NZ) (Road to Rock) finishing second and Platinum Command (NZ) (Red Giant) placing third.

“Michael (Dee) was really wrapped and wants to stick with him wherever he goes,” says Latta. “He will be looking at running in the 3YO Mile at Awapuni or possibly heading to Auckland on January 1st for the Great Northern Guineas – I am leaning more towards the Northern Guineas.”

Kolonel Kev has earned $36,300 for owner Kamada Racing from his four starts.

Lisa Latta Racing Stables purchased Kolonel Kev for $200,000 at the 2013 Karaka Premier Sale from Pencarrow Stud.

“I really like the Darci Brahmas, they have fantastic temperaments. He is a gorgeous horse when you see him,” comments Latta.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, Kolonel Kev is out of unraced mare Lucky Be Lucky (Storm Cat), a half-sister to stakes winner Love Lock (Silver Ghost). Lucky Be Lucky is the dam of three winners, including Santangelo (Lonhro) who placed second in the Group 3 Cambridge Breeders. Lucky Be Lucky has a foal at foot by proven sire Reset.
