Pencarrow Stud-bred Jefferson Bay (Encosta De Lago x Devil’s Lair) was back in the winner’s circle with victory in the S$60,000 Peace & Joy 2015 Stakes (1700m) last night in Singapore.

The son of Encosta De Lago started his racing career in New Zealand with Matamata trainer Jason Bridgman as Encosta Diablo where he claimed four wins including a Listed race before moving to Singapore to join Mark Walker’s stable under the new racing name Jefferson Bay.

Since his first race appearance in Singapore Jefferson Bay has had 30 starts including two firsts and multiple placings.

Manoel Nunes rode the seven-year-old gelding starting the 1700m race from barrier 4 to settle back from mid-field. Making their way around the turn, Jefferson Bay made his move up the outside with 400m to go and made a strong run for home.

Overtaking front-runner Meaisin (NZ) (Zabeel), Jefferson’s bay coasted home for a three-length victory. Meaisin settled in second place and Marea Negro (Black Tide) finishing in third place.

Jefferson Bay has now earned S$153,303 for owners ZA Racing Stable.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, the Encosta de Lago gelding is out of unraced mare Devil’s Lair (Sir Tristram). Jefferson Bay is a half-brother to Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Vapour Trail (Jetball), who was named New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year. He is also a half-brother to Santagostino (Giant’s Causeway), winner of the Group 2 Great Northern Guineas.
