Pencarrow Stud bred Bogart (NZ) (Darci Brahma) added another win in his current campaign, winning a S$80,000 Class 3 (1400m) race last night in Singapore.

Bogart returned to the track after a four-month spell where he finished third fresh up, followed by a second before gaining his fifth win. The four-year-old son of Darci Brahma has started in 16 races and has placed in a further seven races for trainer Michael Freedman.

“It was a good effort considering it was the Long Course”, commented Freedman. “He was there to get run down but he kept going all the way to the line.

“He is a genuine horse but that is probably his mark. I may look for a Benchmark 83 race over 1400m for him.”

Early acceleration in the race resulted in race-favourite Bogart setting the pace in the 14-horse field for jockey Corey Brown. He led the field by a length inside the 800 metres with Lign Em Up (NZ) (Align) next in line, sitting to the outside of Bogart who stalked the rail.

Briefly losing his lead to These Streets (NZ) (Elusive City) in the race for home, Bogart quickly rectified his position, fighting back to win by a neck. Ranging up on the outside in the closing stages was Knight Wager (Casino Prince), who claimed second place, and These Streets finished in third.

The son of Darci Brahma has now won S$256,373 in prizemoney for the Mummify Stable who owns him.

The four-year-old gelding was bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela and was sold at the 2012 Karaka Premier Sale for $155,000 to Michael Freedman & Michael Wallace Bloodstock from Pencarrow Stud.

Bogart is out of stakes placegetter Pavan (Centaine), runner-up in both the Group 1 New Zealand and Group 1 Australian Oaks. He is a half-brother to Let Loushe (Black Minnaloushe), runner-up in the Listed Century Stakes in Australia, and is also a half-brother to the dam of Atacama (Pentire),a dual stakes winner in New Zealand and Australia.

Pavan foaled a filly in 2014, sired by Darci Brahma, a full-sibling to Bogart.
