Darci Magic Casts a Winning Performance

The Pencarrrow-Stud bred Darci Magic (Darci Brahma x Shopping Spree) captured his sixth win on Saturday in the A$85,000 The Last Post Handicap (1600m) at Royal Randwick.

From the stable of Bede Murray, Darci Magic finished fourth at his last start over 1400mn in the A$350,000 Provincial Championship Final after winning a A$100,000 Provincial Championship Qualifier in March. With 20 raceday starts, the Darci Brahma gelding has won six races and placed in a further four.

Ridden by Tim Clark, Darci Magic settled near the tail of the field after beginning from the outside barrier in the nine-horse field. Clark steered the Darci Brahma gelding to the outside running rail in the straight on the Soft 7 track.

As the widest runner, Darci Magic powered away from his rivals in the concluding stages to win by one-length over Sense Of Occasion (Street Sense) and Intimate Moment (NZ) (Dubawi), who finished in second and third place respectively.

The four-year-old gelding has now earned a total of A$229,525 for his owners Mr J Wilson, Mrs WM Wilson, Mrs PM Thomson, Mr GD Thomson, Mr DR Ind, Mr RJ Chilcott, Mr JW Greig, Mr IM Neville and Dr JC Ford.

Bede Murray purchased Darci Magic at the 2012 Karaka Premier Sale for $130,000 from Pencarrow Stud.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, the son of Darci Brahma is out of unraced mare Shopping Spree (Sadler’s Wells). Darci Magic is a half-brother to stakes placegetter Kudamm (Cape Cross), who ran second in the Listed South Island Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes.

Shopping Spree foaled a colt in 2014 sired by the Australian stallion Wanted.
