Hundi Gets the Money in the UK

The United Kingdom arm of Pencarrow Racing was to the fore on the weekend with Hundi (Fastnet Rock x Hawala) winning her first race in the £5,500 Bathwick Tyres Salisbury Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (1200m) at Salisbury on Saturday.

Trained by Charles Hills, this was her first win from her eight raceday appearances. Her last start, just nine days before Saturday’s win, saw her run second over 1400m. She had placed in five of her previous seven starts.

Commencing from the widest barrier for jockey Steve Drowne, Hundi went forward to settle one off the rail behind pace-maker Paint the Star (Acclamation).

Inside 400m to run, Hundi set about catching the leader, sprinting up to Paint the Star who continued to lead. The pair fought to the line but it was Hundi who secured the win by a short head over Paint the Star who finished in second place and Petit Trianon (Dansili) in third.

The three-year-old filly has now increased her earnings to £36,063 for her owners Sir Peter Vela and The Hon Mrs P Stanley of New England Stud in Newmarket, UK.

Hundi was purchased by Adrian Nicholl for £270,000 at the 2013 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from Barronstown Stud.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock is a half-sister to stakes-winners Air Chief Marshal (Danehill Dancer), winner of the Group 3 Curragh Minstrel Stakes, Slip Dance (Celtic Swing), winner of the Listed Newmarket Empress Stakes, and Misu Bond (Danehill Dancer), winner of the Listed Newmarket European Free Handicap.

Hundi is also a half-sister to stakes performer Foxtrot Romeo (Danehill Dancer), runner-up in the Group 1 Irish Two Thousand Guineas. Her dam, Hawala (Warning), was a winner at 1600m in Great Britain and is a half-sister to stakes-winners Afaf (Spectrum), Zack Hall (Multathir) and stakes performer Zack Dream (Dream Well).
