Pencarrow Stud graduate Dylan (Darci Brahma x Battocchi) successfully fulfilled his race-favourite position, winning the S$38,000 Kranji D Stakes (1200m) in Singapore last night.

The three-year-old has started in 16 races, all in Singapore, in Laurie Laxon’s stable. Breaking his maiden status at his third appearance, Dylan has produced a stellar season to date, winning three races and placing in a further six, including being runner-up on four occasions in his previous five starts.

“He has had a good run recently,” commented Laxon. “Out of his last six starts he has had four seconds and a win.

“He was favourite so I expected him to go one better. I will see what rating he gets after this and will race him again in two or three weeks’ time.”

Ridden by Michael Rodd, Dylan began the race from barrier 9, settling back of mid-field outside of Star Beauty (Tale of the Cat) with Lady Trio (NZ) (Captain Rio) tracking in last. Racing to the outside of the field on the turn for home Dylan made a quest to catch the front-running pair Dragon Bobo (Wanted) and Iconnic (Nicconi).

Successfully taking the lead in the final 100m, Dylan coasted to victory by three-quarters-of-a-length over Lady Trio and Star Beauty who ranged up for second and third place respectively.

Owned by Oscar Racing Stable, he has now earned a total of S$140,644 in prizemoney.

Laxon purchased Dylan at the 2013 Karaka Premier Sale for NZ$80,000 from Pencarrow Stud.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, the son of Darci Brahma is out dual Listed stakes-winner Battocchi (Success Express), winner of the Listed Matriarch Stakes and the Listed Ballarat Cup. Dylan is a half-brother to Group 1 winner Guiseppina (Johar), winner of the Group 1 Telegraph Handicap, and he is a full-brother to stakes placegetter Micken (Darci Brahma), runner-up in the Group 2 Wellington Guineas.

The Pencarrow Stud-owned Valbuena (Darci Brahma x Vega Sicilia), stablemate to Dylan, also won last night in the S$125,000 Open Stakes, winning by half-a-length for Laxon, who part owns the horse with Sir Peter Vela.
