It would be a fair assumption that Pencarrow Racing galloper Assume (Fastnet Rock x Alsharq) has ability given her striking debut on Irish turf last week, winning the €11,500 Mosscontrol.ie Maiden (1700m) at Killarney.

Owned and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Assume relished the good to firm track, showing a strong turn of foot at her first raceday outing to claim victory for trainer David Wachman.

Commencing the race from barrier 4 for jockey Billy Lee, Assume tracked the leaders in fourth position with The Lucky One (Kodiac) setting the pace.

The Fastnet Rock filly improved approaching the two furlong marker but was briefly held up looking for a run. When she found a gap she quickened well, hitting the front inside the last 100 yards and raced away to win by three-quarters-of-a-length over Mcguigan (Teofilo), who finished in second place, and Tadaany (Acclamation) in third.

The daughter of boom Australian sire Fastnet Rock, who is quickly making a name for himself in Europe, was purchased by the British Bloodstock Agency on behalf of Sir Peter Vela for €280,000 at the 2013 Goffs Orby Yearling Sale from Croom House Stud.

The three-year-old filly is out of winning mare Alsharq (Machiavellian) and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Sandreamer (Oasis Dream), winner of the Listed Milan Premio Eupili. Her dam, Alsharq, is a half-sister to Sayedah (Darshaan), winner of the Group 2 Newmarket Rockfel Stakes, and is from the family of Group 1 French Derby runner-up and successful Australian sire Twig Moss.
