Pencarrow Stud-bred Gamblestown (Darci Brahma x Inniskillen) scored his first spring win yesterday in the A$50,000 Cellarbrations Handicap (1400m) at Warwick Farm.

Winner of three races from 16 starts, this is Gamblestown’s first triumph for trainer Joseph Pride, after transferring to his Warwick Farm based stable at the start of the season. His first two triumphs came at the start of his career, entering the winner’s circle consecutively in his first two race appearances, both times over 1200m.

Ridden for the first time by Sam Clipperton, Gamblestown commenced from barrier 5 to settle into a steady tempo midfield. Taking the outside path, he improved on the turn for home and raced down the straight to hit the lead at 200m, taking victory by three-quarters-of-a-length over Redoutable Heart (Redoute’s Choice) and Murvate (Murtajill) who finished in second and third place respectively.

The five-year-old gelding was purchased from Pencarrow Stud at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2012 Karaka Select Sale for $85,000 by Proven Thoroughbreds.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, the son of Darci Brahma is out of the winning Centaine mare Inniskillen, who is a half-sister to stakes-winners Insouciant (Keeper), winner of the Group 1 New Zealand One Thousand Guineas, Copper Mountain (Jetball), winner of the Group 3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes, and stakes placegetter Chateauneuf Dupape (Darci Brahma).
