No Gamble for a Metropolitan Win

A flying finish by Pencarrow Stud graduate Gamblestown (NZ) (Darci Brahma) saw him the winner of the A$85,000 Vincents Forensic Accounting Handicap (1350m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

A winner two starts ago at Warwick Farm, this is Gamblestown’s second triumph since transferring to Joseph Pride’s stable at the start of the season. Having won a total of four races to date, he entered the winner’s circle consecutively in his first two appearances, both times over 1200m.

“I’m really pleased with his run, it was a good effort,” commented Pride. “He has taken a while to mature but he is now starting to realise his potential.

“He is the kind of gelding that just needs to be taken through the grades. He will run in a similar sort of race in two weeks. Hopefully next preparation we can look at some stakes races with him.”

Ridden from barrier 8 by Tye Angland, Gamblestown went to the back of the field in the early stages but quickly improved taking an outside run. Sweeping around the field on the home turn, he powered down the straight to hit the front inside 100m.

Hotly challenged by Heavens Above (Street Cry), Gamblestown held the lead to narrowly win by a nose over Heavens Above and race-favourite Duca Valentinois (Holy Roman Emperor) in third.

New South Wales’ Proven Thoroughbreds purchased Gamblestown at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Select Sale for $85,000 from Pencarrow Stud.

The five-year-old gelding is now raced by Proven Thoroughbreds, Mr GP McDonald, Mr SM Greenaway, Mr M Graham, Redbank North Pty Ltd, Mr GI Murfet, Mrs KD King, Mr TD Glover, Mr GC Hall, Mr C Hall, Mr TK Willis, Mr BA Rankmore, Mr WD Glass, Mr GW Diggins and Mr IB Paterson.

Bred by Sir Peter Vela and Philip Vela, the son of Darci Brahma is out of winning Centaine mare Inniskillen, a half-sister to stakes-winners Insouciant (Keeper), winner of the Group 1 New Zealand One Thousand Guineas, Copper Mountain (Jetball), winner of the Group 3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes, and stakes placegetter Chateauneuf Dupape (Darci Brahma).
