A Fruitful Win for Cote de Nuits

Carrying the blue and white stripes to victory in Singapore on Friday night was Cote de Nuits (Stravinsky x Madame Echezeaux) with triumph in the S$38,000 Kranji Stakes (1100m).

This was Cote de Nuits’ first win in Singapore for trainer Laurie Laxon, his first win since breaking his maiden status on debut last season when trained by New Zealand’s Roger James. The five-year-old gelding was runner-up on four consecutive occasions after transferring to Singapore earlier this year.

“He is a really nice young horse who will go on to win more races,” commented Laxon.

Ridden by Manoel Nunes, Cote de Nuits had a quick start from barrier 3, taking him to the lead in the early stages. The first to enter the straight, Cote de Nuits held off rivals to win strongly by one-length over Racer King (NZ) (Pins) and Duty Free (NZ) (Keeninsky) in second and third places respectively.

Owned by Sir Peter Vela, who bred him with Philip Vela, the son of Stravinsky is out of Madame Echezeaux (Montjeu) who is a half-sister to stakes winners Darci Brahma (Danehill), a Group 1 winner of five occasions, and Burgundy (Redoute’s Choice), winner of the Group 3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes, both now sires standing in New Zealand.

Pencarrow Stud will offer a colt by Power out of Madame Echezeaux at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2016 Premier Sale catalogued at Lot 385.
