A Double for Soul Commander in Perak

Pencarrow Stud-bred Soul Commander (Commands x Bertolomeo) made it two wins in a row after scoring the 55,000Rgt New Year Goodness Stakes over 1200m at Perak on Sunday.

The seven-year-old was ridden by apprentice rider M Hanif and scored by one-length over Pisces Star (Court Command), with five-lengths back to Éclair Sensation (Street Sense) in third. Soul Commander’s winning time was 1:10.00 on a Good track.

Soul Commander started his racing in New Zealand for Jason Bridgeman having four starts including one win as a juvenile at Woodville.

After one start as a three-year-old, Soul Commander was moved to Singapore and won four from 37 starts in Mark Walker’s care.

Last year Soul Commander was transferred to trainer K Wong on the Malaysian circuit and has now won three races and has two seconds from eight starts for his new owners Purple Rain Stable.

Soil Commander has won eight races with eleven minor placings from career 49 starts and stakes of NZ$239,846.

The seven-year-old gelding was purchased at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2010 Premier Sale for $165,000 by David Ellis from Pencarrow Stud.
