Pencarrow Stud had a successful National Yearling Sales Series, producing the star attraction at the Premier Sale and closing as the fourth leading vendor by aggregate.

A total of 25 Pencarrow yearlings were catalogued over the Premier and Select Sale Days, with 17 sold for an aggregate of $3,697,500, at an average of $217,500.

The highlight of the Sale was the colt by the world’s highest ever rated racehorse, Frankel, unbeaten in 14 starts including 10 Group 1 wins. The yearling was the first by Frankel to be auctioned in the Southern Hemisphere.

New Zealand Bloodstock founder Sir Peter Vela sent two mares form his Pencarrow Stud blueblood family to England to be served by Frankel during the Southern Hemisphere breeding season.

The meticulous planning resulted in a colt out of Our Echezeaux (Zabeel), catalogued at Lot 445 (above), the third to last lot of the second day of the Premier Sale. He was brought for $1.3m by a syndicate of high profile international identities including Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland, Tom Magnier of Coolmore Stud, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum from Dubai, the Niarchos family from France and Apollo Ng from Hong Kong, from the underbidder, Melbourne trainer Peter Moody.

The top selling colt is the seventh foal from Our Echezeaux, who has produced Group 2 winner Dolmabache and Group 3 winner Pure Elegance, both by Redoute’s Choice. Our Echezeaux, is a daughter of Richebourg, a half-sister to Romanee Conti, the dam of Group 1 Melbourne and Group 1 Caulfield Cup winner Ethereal, and a full-sister to Group 1 Australasian Oaks winner Grand Echezeaux, the dam of 5-time Group 1 winner Darci Brahma also a Group 1 sire, and Group 3 winner Burgundy.

Pencarrow Stud also sold a Commands out of Vandeene colt for $380,000 to the China Horse Club/Winstar Farm. An O’Reilly out of Banchee colt to Lance O’Sullivan’s Wexford Stables for $330,000 and a Savabeel colt out of Boito Belle for $270,000 to McEvoy/Mitchell Racing.
