Lucky’s Revenge Makes It Two Wins In A Row

Pencarrow Racing’s Lucky’s Revenge (NZ) (Darci Brahma x Santangelo) made it two wins in a row in the Benchmark 65 $7,000 Bostock New Zealand over 1200 metres at Hawke’s Bay on Wednesday.

Starting as hot favourite, Lucky’s Revenge with Vinnie Colgan aboard, bounded out from barrier 2 and settled outside the leader China Silk (Hard Spun). On straightening up on the home turn, Lucky’s Revenge, shot past as Colgan set her alight to race clear to an impressive three-and-a-quarter length win from Lyric’s Way (NZ) (Thewayyouare), in second place. Maxssistar (NZ) (Howbaddouwantit), was half-a-length back in third. The winning time was 1:10.67secs.

“It was a good win,” commented trainer Peter McKay. “We were going to go to Wellington, two weeks ago but she’s been a bit jarry, so we’ve been going along with her quietly.”

“We’ll look at the three-year-old sprint at Ellerslie next month with her next.”

“I can’t see any reason why she can’t get a mile at the end of this season or next. She relaxes really well.”

The three-year-old filly recorded her second win from four starts and has earned $9,275 in stakes for owner Sir Peter Vela.

Sir Peter Vela and the late Philip Vela bred Lucky’s Revenge, who is out of Santangelo (Lonhro), a winner of six races and runner-up in the Group 3 Windsor Park Stud Breeders Stakes.

Santangelo foaled a filly this season by five-time Group 1 winner Ocean Park.
