Ethereal (NZ) inducted in to New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame

Legendary mare Ethereal (NZ) was inducted in to the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame at the gala dinner at Skycity Hamilton on Friday.

Pencarrow Stud’s supreme staying mare Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm), raced by Sir Peter and the late Philip Vela and trained by Sheila Laxon, is out of Hong Kong Cup winner Romanee Conti, also bred at Pencarrow and raced by the brothers.

Ethereal won four Group Ones including the Caulfield/Melbourne Cup double, the last horse to do so.

In a Hall of Fame performance, Ethereal completes the 2001 Caulfield/Melbourne Cup double with success at Flemington.
