Turn Me Loose Wins Group 1 Futurity Stakes

Iffraaj entire Turn Me Loose (NZ) added to his blossoming reputation when he was too strong for an elite field in the Group 1 A$500,000 Futurity Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman in Cambridge, Turn Me Loose is out of the Pencarrow-bred mare Indomitable (NZ) (Danehill). The mare was loaned to George and Maryann Simon who sent her to Iffraaj and then sold him at NZB’s Ready to Run Sale.

Turn Me Loose sat just off the speed in the Futurity Stakes (1400m) race before surging to the lead in the home straight. He asserted his superiority in the closing stages to win by a comfortable three-quarters of a length under Opie Bosson.

“Once we got into our spot he dropped the bit and was travelling beautifully,” Bosson said.

It was Turn Me Loose’s third Group 1 win, having won the New Zealand 2000 Guineas at Riccarton in November 2014 and the Emirates Stakes at Flemington a year later. Overall he has had 13 starts for seven wins, four placings and more than $1.5 million.
