Rasa Lila Boosts Value with Exceptional Group 3 Win

Enormously talented Pencarrow mare Rasa Lila greatly enhanced her value as a broodmare with her first black-type success at Trentham on Saturday, capturing the Group 3 Wentwood Grange Cuddle Stakes with a phenomenal finishing burst.

Rider Leith Innes bided his time with the five-year-old mare until the field swung around the home turn, when he brought her to the outside of the track and asked her to sprint. Rasa Lila’s response was electrifying, roaring down the outside and sailing past Goodsav and Illuminati to win by two and a quarter lengths.

“When we’ve got her right, she’s pretty explosive,” said Steven Ramsay, who trains the mare in partnership with Julia Ritchie.

Rasa Lila has now had 23 starts for six wins, 11 placings and more than $185,000 in stakes. This was her first black-type win, having previously placed in the Group 2 Cal Isuzu Stakes and Group 3 Eagle Technology Stakes.

A daughter of Darci Brahma and the Sadler’s Wells mare Dance My Dance, Rasa Lila is a half-sister to Pencarrow’s Lowland Stakes winner Posavina.
