Another Win for In-Form Echezeaux

Beautifully bred Pencarrow galloper Echezeaux (Encosta De Lago) continued her strong run of recent form with a tight win over Cathedral Cove at Awapuni on Friday.

The nose victory over her Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards-trained stablemate was Echezeaux’s second win from her last three starts, and she finished second in the other.

“It was a courageous win on track conditions that were a little bit worse than what she wanted,” Autridge said.

“Her class shone through to cope with it, and providing she comes through it okay we may give her one more start before the tracks pack up.”

Echezeaux descends from Pencarrow Stud’s most famous family. She is out of Grand Echezeaux, a Group One-winning daughter of Zabeel and Richebourg (Vice Regal).

Grand Echezeaux’s other progeny include Darci Brahma (Danehill) and Burgundy (Redoute’s Choice). Richebourg is also the dam of Our Echezeaux (Zabeel) and the internationally successful race mare Romanee Conti (Sir Tristram), who is also the dam of the great Ethereal (Rhythm).

Bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela, the four-year-old Echezeaux has now had six starts for two wins, two seconds and a fourth.
