Schiaparelli scores easy win at Matamata

Pencarrow filly Schiaparelli (Darci Brahma) raced away from her opposition to score an impressive win at Matamata today.

Ridden by Leith Innes for trainer Tony Pike, Schiaparelli won the 1200-metre event by two and a quarter lengths and stopped the clock at 1:10.75. It was the second win in the Pencarrow colours in five days for Innes, who won Saturday’s Group 2 Travis Stakes aboard Rasa Lila.

Bred and owned by Sir Peter Vela, the three-year-old filly Schiaparelli has now had four starts for a win and three placings. She had finished third behind subsequent stakes winner No Pushover at Matamata on March 30.

Schiaparelli is out of the Sadler’s Wells mare Jeanetta Cochrane, who is now the dam of eight winners from eight foals to race. Her other progeny include the Group 2 Queensland Guineas winner Saxon (Danehill) and the stakes placegetters Power Of Destiny (Danehill), Dane Shakira (Danehill) and Wayside (Choisir).
