Wildflower claims Pearl Series Race

Highly promising Pencarrow filly Wildflower (NZ) (Keeper) cleared maiden grade in style with a dominant win in a $12,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series race at Matamata on Wednesday.

Ridden by Lisa Allpress for local trainer Graham Richardson, Wildflower scooted through the testing heavy track conditions and won the 1600-metre race by a resounding four and a quarter lengths.

The breakthrough victory came in Wildflower’s third career start. She had finished fifth in each of her two previous appearances, both over 1400 metres, and on Wednesday she relished the extra distance.

Bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Wildflower comes from a Pencarrow family rich in black-type performance. The three-year-old filly is out of the Zabeel mare Zygadene (NZ), a winner herself and the dam of four-race winners Desert General (NZ) (Commands) and North Of Sunset (Red Ransom).

Zygadene is a full-sister to the dual Group Two winner Lafleur (NZ) (Zabeel), who is the dam of stakes winners Amaryllis (NZ) (Red Ransom) and Papilio (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice).
