Promises (NZ) gets deserved win at Te Rapa

Pencarrow Stud mare Promises (NZ) (Keeper) capped a consistent run of form with a deserved win in the $22,500 Fairview Motors 1600 at Te Rapa on Saturday.

Ridden by New Zealand jockeys’ premiership leader Lisa Allpress for Cambridge trainer Shaune Ritchie, Promises lived up to her $3.40 favouritism with a comfortable length and three-quarter win over Beyond Reach and Opulent.

The four-year-old Promises is now the winner of four of her 19 starts. Saturday’s win came after recording top-four finishes in all of her previous four starts in this campaign.

Bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Promises is by Keeper out of the three-race winning mare Promethean (NZ) (Grand Lodge). Promethean is out of the star Pencarrow performer Sarwatch (NZ) (Jetball), who was NZB Filly of the Year in 2000 and won the Group 2 Royal Stakes, Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes and Listed Soliloquy Stakes.
