Meritaggio (NZ) Scores Dominant Win at Tauranga

Under-rated Pencarrow mare Meritaggio (Road To Rock) picked up the fourth win of her career with a runaway victory at Tauranga on Friday.

Ridden by Zy Nor Azman for trainers Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie, the five-year-old mare was prominent throughout the $8,000 Gartshore Retail Fit Outs 1600 and kicked clear in the straight to win the Rating 75 event by three and a quarter lengths.

Meritaggio has now had 21 starts for four wins, 10 placings and more than $57,000 in stakes.

Sir Peter Vela bred and races Meritaggio in partnership with expat New Zealander Laurie Laxon, a champion trainer in Singapore.

Meritaggio is by Road to Rock out of the Montjeu mare Ruppertsberg (NZ), who is a daughter of the Group One-winning mare Clear Rose (NZ) (Deputy Governor). Ruppertsberg is the dam of two winners from four foals to race, the other being Adolay (NZ) (Fast ‘N’ Famous) who was stakes-placed in the Listed NZB Airfreight Stakes and fourth in the Warstep Stakes.
