Echezeaux (NZ) Shines at Trentham

Royally bred Pencarrow mare Echezeaux (NZ) (Encosta De Lago) picked up the fourth win of her short career with a thrilling victory in Saturday’s $30,000 Hanley Formula Premier (1600m) at Trentham.

Ridden by Matt Cameron for trainers Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards, Echezeaux outfought Beefeater (NZ) (Alamosa) and Captain Lincoln (NZ) (Stravinsky) to narrowly prevail in a tight three-way finish.

Echezeaux has now had nine starts for four wins and two seconds, earning $37,600 in prize-money for her owner-breeder Sir Peter Vela.

Echezeaux comes from Pencarrow’s most famous family. She is out of the Group One-winning Zabeel mare Grand Echezeaux (NZ), the dam of Group One winner and top sire Darci Brahma (NZ) (Danehill), as well as the multiple stakes winner Burgundy (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) and stakes-placed Saperavi (NZ) (Stravinsky).

Grand Echezeaux is a sister to Our Echezeaux (NZ), the dam of stakes winners Dolmabache (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice) and Pure Elegance (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice). She is also a three-quarter sister to Romanee Conti (NZ) (Sir Tristram), a multiple stakes winner and the dam of Caulfield and Melbourne Cup heroine Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm).
