Pencarrow double at Taupo

The in-form Pencarrow Stud racing team picked up another two wins during the eight-race card at Taupo on Friday.

First-starter Rosso Corsa (NZ) (Darci Brahma) was the first winner, winning by a nose in the Central Transport 1800.

Trained by John Bell and ridden by Matt Cameron, the three-year-old gelding is out of the stakes-winning Stravinsky mare Miss Scarlatti (NZ) who also placed in the Group 1 VRC Oaks.

Miss Scarlatti, a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winner Abidewithme (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice), has now had two winners from two foals to race. Pencarrow Stud will offer a filly by Reliable Man out of Miss Scarlatti as Lot 291 at the 2017 Premier Sale.

Pencarrow’s second winner was Lucky’s Revenge (NZ) (Darci Brahma), who scored by one length in the Kirton Sprint in the hands of Danielle Johnson. Trained by Peter McKay, the four-year-old mare has now won four of her 12 starts and more than $30,000 in prize-money.

Lucky’s Revenge is a daughter of the stakes-placed Lonhro mare Santangelo (NZ). Lucky’s Revenge is her only foal to race so far.

Santangelo is a half-sister to the talented Kolonel Kev (NZ) (Darci Brahma), who has won four races and has been stakes-placed.

Friday’s Taupo double added to an outstanding week for Pencarrow, whose colours have also been carried to victory by Quintessentially (NZ) (High Chaparral), Moral Code (NZ) (Makfi) and Sopraffina (NZ) (High Chaparral).
