Wildflower (NZ) Claims Impressive Ellerslie Win

Pencarrow Stud mare Wildflower (NZ) (Keeper) scored an impressive victory in Sunday’s $50,000 Otakiri Reserve 1600 at Ellerslie.

Ridden by Craig Grylls for Matamata trainer Graham Richardson, the four-year-old mare sprinted powerfully in the straight to claim the lead and then withstood a strong late challenge from Romantic Maid (High Chaparral) to win by a head.

Wildflower has now had seven starts for three wins, a placing and more than $53,000 in prize-money.

Bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Wildflower is a daughter of the race-winning Zabeel mare Zygadene (NZ). A full-sister to the multiple stakes winner Lafleur (NZ), Zygadene is the dam of three winners from three foals to race.

There have been six winners for the Pencarrow racing team in the last six days, with a win at Ellerslie on Boxing Day followed by two each at New Plymouth and Taupo and Sunday’s win back at Ellerslie.
