Back-to-Back Wins for Donizetti

Pencarrow mare Donizetti (NZ) (Darci Brahma) continued the bright start she has made to her racing career with a second consecutive win in Saturday’s $22,500 Broker Web Risk Services Handicap (1550m) at Awapuni.

An easy last-start maiden winner over the same course and distance, the four-year-old sat in a handy position in Saturday’s Rating 65 event for rider Rosie Myers before taking the lead as the field turned for home.

Helenaoftroy (Helmet) fought back on the inside, and Handfull (NZ) (Fully Fledged) charged home out wide, but Donizetti fought off her rivals to win by a half-head.

Trained by Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie, Donizetti has now had six starts for two wins and more than $20,000 in prize-money.

Bred and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Donizetti is out of the Centaine mare Boito Belle (NZ), a half-sister to the stakes winners Winning Belle (NZ) (Zabeel) and Our Ella Belle (NZ) (Encosta de Lago).

Donizetti’s victory at Awapuni on Saturday was the 10th winner for the Pencarrow Racing team since the beginning of November. It was the second in less than 24 hours, with Silver Cloud (NZ) (Testa Rossa) having won at Tauranga on Friday afternoon.
