Deserved Maiden Win for Terra Firma (NZ)

Pencarrow mare Terra Firma (NZ) (Reliable Man) picked up the first win of her career in Wednesday’s $10,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series 1300 at Taupo.

The grey had picked up third and fourth placings in her first five starts and was also a close sixth in the Listed Oaks Prelude (1800m) at New Plymouth in February.

Ridden on Wednesday by Opie Bosson, Terra Firma raced near the back of the field but sprinted impressively down the outside to win comfortably by a length and a quarter.

Bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Terra Firma is out of the Danehill mare Terroir (NZ).

Her granddam Lucky Be Lucky (Storm Cat) is the dam of stakes winner Kolonel Kev (NZ) (Darci Brahma) and stakes-placed Santangelo (NZ) (Lonhro), and is a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner Love Lock (Silver Ghost).

Terra Firma is trained by Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie.
