Stylish Rotorua Win for Tonadillas (NZ)

Pencarrow three-year-old Tonadillas (NZ) (Your Song) opened his winning account in only his second start with a stylish performance in Wednesday’s $10,000 Function Rooms For Hire 1215 at Rotorua.

A fast-finishing third on debut at Hastings earlier in the month, Tonadillas took a big step forward in his second raceday appearance.

Settling second-last in the 11-horse field under rider Matt Cameron, he swooped around the outside of the field rounding the home turn, ran down Shesonfire (NZ) (Zacinto) in the shadows of the finish line and won by a head.

Trained by Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie, Tonadillas has earned $7,250 in his two-start career to date.

Bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Tonadillas is out of the Pencarrow-owned mare Goyescas (Encosta de Lago) – a daughter of the Group 1-winning Danehill mare Larrocha.

Tonadillas is the first foal out of Goyescas, who has subsequently produced colts by Shamexpress and Mongolian Khan. She was served by Turn Me Loose in 2018.
