Penteverest (NZ) Completes Pencarrow Double

The Pencarrow colours were carried to two victories at Ellerslie on Sunday, with Penteverest (NZ) (Pentire) following in the footsteps of earlier winner Balios (NZ) (Shamexpress).

An impressive last-start maiden winner at Avondale, Penteverest was the favourite to deliver a repeat result in the $27,500 Dunstan Feeds 1500 Championship Qualifier.

Rider Jason Waddell had the three-year-old handily placed just behind the leaders, then snuck through an inside gap to take the lead at the top of the home straight. He kicked clear with a smart turn of foot, opening up a clear advantage and racing to victory by a length and a half.

Trained by Ken and Bev Kelso and Mark Donoghue, Penteverest has now had four starts for two wins, a second and $24,750 in prize-money.

Penteverest is raced by Sir Peter Vela in partnership with Laurie Laxon, who won nine premierships during a Hall of Fame training career in Singapore.

Penteverest is a half-brother to two stakes winners – Single Currency (NZ) (Bachelor Duke), who won nine races including the Listed Waikato Sprint Handicap, and Super Jockey (NZ) (Sandtrap), who won the Korea Sprint and finished second in the Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen at Meydan.
