Maison Roxanne (NZ) Wins Stylishly

The blue and white hoops of Pencarrow Racing were carried to a second victory at Thursday’s Te Aroha meeting when Maison Roxanne (NZ) (Snitzel) won the $10,000 Kopu Engineering & Kopu Marine 1200.

The Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie-trained filly had finished second in her only previous start, beaten narrowly by the subsequent stakes performer Loose Cannon (NZ) (Tavistock) at Ruakaka in September.

This time she went one better. After stalking the leader for star Sydney-based jockey James McDonald, Maison Roxanne took over in the straight and went clear to win by a length and a quarter.

She has now had two starts for a win and a second, earning $8,250 in stakes to date.

Maison Roxanne was bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and is raced by Sir Peter Vela.

Her sire is Australia’s remarkably dominant stallion Snitzel, and her dam Madame Echezeaux (NZ) (Montjeu) comes from an esteemed Pencarrow family.

Madame Echezeaux is a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner and sire Darci Brahma (NZ) (Danehill) and the multiple stakes winner and sire Burgundy (NZ) (Redoute’s Choice).

Second dam Grand Echezeaux (NZ) (Zabeel) is a Group 1 winner and a three-quarter sister to Romanee Conti (NZ) (Sir Tristram), the dam of champion Pencarrow mare Ethereal (NZ) (Rhythm).
