Pencarrow Colours to the Fore in Hawke’s Bay Cup

Carrying the colours of Pencarrow Stud principal Sir Peter Vela, promising stayer Felaar (NZ) (Ekraar) scored an exciting win in Saturday’s $75,000 Listed Royston Hospital Hawke’s Bay Cup (2200m) at Hastings.

The talented five-year-old is owned by Sir Peter Vela in partnership with Leo Molloy and trainer Stephen Marsh. The Hawke’s Bay Cup was his first black-type win, but he had previously placed in the Group 3 New Zealand Cup (3200m) and two Listed races.

Ridden on Saturday by Leith Innes, Felaar surged out of midfield and prevailed in a head-bobbing finish to the time-honoured staying test, beating the Group winners Igraine and Jacksstar.

Felaar has now had 19 starts for four wins, nine placings and $177,300 in prizemoney.

Felaar was bred by Monovale Holdings Ltd and is one of three winners from three foals to race out of the Faltaat mare Felt That (NZ).
