Wild Seas (NZ) Wins at Waverley

Pencarrow mare Wild Seas (NZ) (Ocean Park) added another stylish victory to her CV in Sunday’s $11,000 Summit Electrical (1200m) at Waverley.

Trained by Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott at Matamata, Wild Seas won two races as a three-year-old last season and had kicked off her new campaign with a flying finish into second at Te Rapa on October 4.

She was expected to be hard to beat on Sunday, and jockey Johnathan Parkes had her perfectly positioned outside the leader Celtic Wonder (NZ) (Eighth Wonder) through the early part of the race.

That rival fought back bravely when Wild Seas made her challenge at the top of the straight, but Wild Seas got the upper hand in the last 50 metres and scored by a neck.

On a rain-affected Slow7 track, the 1200 metres were run in a fast time of 1:10.7.

Wild Seas has now had 10 starts for three wins, four placings and $37,485 in prize-money.

Bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Wild Seas is out of the Lonhro mare Santangelo (NZ), who won six races and was Group 3-placed. She is the dam of four named foals, all of them winners – Wild Seas, Wild Child (NZ) (Darci Brahma), Lim’s Pershing (NZ) (Pins) and Lucky’s Revenge (NZ) (Darci Brahma).

Santangelo is a half-sister to Kolonel Kev (NZ) (Darci Brahma), who won the Listed Timaru Cup and has been twice Group 2-placed.
