Big Maverick Shoots For Triple Crown
26 July 2008
Having dominated both of the first two legs, the Pencarrow Stud-bred gelding Big Maverick (NZ) (Ajfan by Woodman) will shoot for a clean sweep of the Singapore 3YO Challenge Series at Kranji racecourse on Sunday.
If successful in all three legs of the series Big Maverick (NZ) will collect a lucrative bonus of S$150,000.
The bonus is paid to the winner of the three legs of the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge. Big Maverick has already picked up $50,000 for winning the first two legs.
Although previously successful from 1200m - 1400m, a breeding predisposition suggests his second attempt at the 1600m trip should not be a problem.
Big Maverick (NZ) is by New Zealand's 1997 Champion Sprinter/Miler O'Reilly (NZ) (Last Tycoon) and is out of the English Gr.1 One Thousand Guineas (1600m) runner up Ajfan.
"Big Maverick is very fit and has been working up well," said Laxon.
