Yours Latest Addition to Proven Oaks Family
18 December 2008
Yours, a Pencarrow Stud bred gelding, won his second race today in the Shuzohra Handicap at Otaki, highlighting one of Pencarrow’s foundation mares, Tiffany Rose.
Yours (Van Nistelrooy – Pavan (Centaine)) took the feature mile on the day in good fashion, a four length victory marking his dominance over his fourteen rivals. The time was 1.37.25 in the hands of Kelly Myers, with owner/trainer Bill Thurlow getting a second victory from the son of Van Nistelrooy at his eighth start.
Thurlow purchased Yours as a yearling from the 2006 Karaka Select Sale for just $11,000.
Yours' dam, Pavan, was raced by Pencarrow Stud, and descends from Tiffany Rose, a daughter of Sovereign Edition. Pavan won two races but more importantly provided great excitement for connections when running second in both the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (to Tycoon Lil) and Group 1 Australasian Oaks (to La Volta). Pavan’s dam Marmalitre (Wolverton) went one better than her daughter in capturing an Oaks when victorious in the Group 1 South Australian Oaks, and is most noteworthy for being the first Group 1 winner bred and owned by Pencarrow Stud.
Pavan this year will be represented by a filly, Lot 170, at the 2009 Karaka Premier Sale. By Pins, she was deliberately bred on the Pins-Centaine cross that produced Group 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Legs (ex River Century, by Centaine).
Stud Manager Leon Casey confirms that the filly is the type they planned to breed. “She is a real Oaks type of filly. She has a lovely loose walk, a fantastic attitude, and she reminds me a lot of the prominent Oaks producing family."
The prominent Oaks performers in the Tiffany Rose family are also complemented by some outstanding sprinter/milers. The filly bound for Karaka is a half-sister to seven-time winner Let Loushe (Black Minnaloushe) a place-getter in a A$100,000 race at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day this season for trainer Lee Freedman.
Further down the page you will find Allez Suez (Canny Lad), an outstanding miler whose five victories included the Group 1 Epsom Handicap in Sydney.
The Pins – Pavan (Centaine) filly will sell on the first day of Karaka Premier this year, 26 January, where she is sure to attract plenty of attention from those buyers seeking Oaks fillies and Cups mares.
