Quinta de Lago Takes Fourth Singapore Victory
08 May 2012
Pencarrow Racing notched up its seventh Singapore win of the 2011/12 season on Friday night with Quinta de Lago making a welcome return to winning form in the S$75,000 Kranji Stakes (1700m).
Racing mid-field for jockey Stephen Baster, Quinta de Lago (Encosta de Lago x Slip Sliding) improved under hard riding to claim third at the turn and set out after race leader Maraeti. In a determined effort from the six-year-old, he got the better of his opponent in the final strides to win by a head.
Trained by champion Singapore trainer Laurie Laxon, the son of Encosta de Lago has bounced back to winning form after having three unplaced runs, with his last victory coming five starts back over 1600 metres in late January.
The six-year-old’s record now stands at 29 Singapore starts for four wins, five placings and just shy of S$200,000 in stakes.
Quinta de Lago began his racing career in New Zealand for the now Singapore based trainer Mark Walker and claimed three wins from 14 starts before being taken to Singapore.
A top class yearling, Quinta de Lago was purchased for Pencarrow by David Ellis from Curraghmore Stud for $725,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2007 Karaka Premier Sale.
