Runaway Woodville Win for Flourishing (NZ)

Pencarrow filly Flourishing (NZ) (Makfi) took a giant step forward in her racing career with a six-length win at Woodville on Thursday.

The three-year-old had finished 10th on debut at the beginning of December, then a fast-finishing third later that month in her only other start.

In Thursday’s $10,000 Alpha Domus 1600, rider Danielle Johnson sent Flourishing straight to the lead and the pair raced clear in the straight for an emphatic win.

Nominated for the Group 1 Al Basti Equiworld New Zealand Oaks (2400m) at Trentham in March, Flourishing is trained by Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie for owner-breeder Sir Peter Vela.

Flourishing is a daughter of Sir Peter’s multiple Group 2-winning Zabeel mare Lafleur (NZ), who is now the dam of four winners including the Group 3 winner Amaryllis (NZ) (Red Ransom).
