Badea (NZ) Scores First Win

Promising Pencarrow mare Badea (NZ) (Darci Brahma) opened her account with a stylish maiden win in Friday’s $10,000 Interislander Summer Festival 5 Jan (1200m) at Ruakaka.

The four-year-old raced in midfield before finishing over the top of So Glorious (So You Think) to win by a widening margin of a length and a half. She was ridden by Jake Bayliss for Byerley Park trainers Bruce Wallace and Allan Peard.

Badea has now had five starts for one win, two placings and $8,250 in prizemoney.

Bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Badea is out of the three-time winning mare Barbadine (Giant’s Causeway), who was a US$270,000 yearling purchase at Keeneland.

Second dam Damson (Entrepreneur) was the champion two-year-old filly in Ireland in 2004, winning the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes. She is the dam of six winners, including Group Two winner Requinto (Dansili) and multiple stakes placegetter Independence Day (Dansili).
