Tonadillas (NZ) Scores at Matamata

The talented Tonadillas (NZ) (Your Song) completed a Pencarrow double at Matamata on Wednesday with a powerful performance in the $10,000 Race A Horse With Te Akau (1200m).

Two hours after The White Queen (NZ) (Cape Blanco) scored a front-running win in maiden grade, Tonadillas came from last with an irresistible late sprint to win his Rating 65 event by three-quarters of a length. The four-year-old was ridden by Ashvin Goindasamy for Pencarrow trainers Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie.

Tonadillas has now recorded two wins and a placing from just five starts.

Bred by Pencarrow Thoroughbreds Ltd and raced by Sir Peter Vela, Tonadillas is out of the well-bred Pencarrow mare Goyescas (Encosta de Lago) – a daughter of the Group 1-winning Danehill mare Larrocha.

Tonadillas was the first foal out of Goyescas, who has subsequently produced colts by Shamexpress, Mongolian Khan and Turn Me Loose. Her most recent mating was to Burgundy.
